What if you had a country with no public transportation infrastructure, where you could invent it from scratch? What would you come up with?

Bullet trains for distances <300km and a dense+fast subway network for intra-city transportation is what makes the most IMO
And of course, walkable and bike-able cities. So basically Japan/Tokyo but with broader streets and actual bikes lanes.

The most important piece seems to me to change zoning laws and town codes such that every day travel (commute, commerce) is minimized.

Also, suburbians need to bear the costs of their massive public infrastructure (roads, tubes, cables) that is paid by the ponzi scheme
