For millennia people didn't know what fire was (as in how to define it) but we're still afraid of forest fires. ;)
It's reasonable to be afraid of what we know (human intelligence & stupidity), but no need to predict a "super-fire" that will end humanity.

Fire was essential in Human evolution as it shrank the gut. But some societies lost the technology altogether eg. Tasmanian aborigines
