Would that apply to income tax too? Surely we don't tax people's employment because we want less of them.

Don't disagree that it would be a tax on innovation. But not sure we tax primarily as a disincentive.

That is a simplistic understanding of taxes. You tax to incorporate an externality. Taxing robots can offset labor changes.

I think of tax as a regularizer (in part). Helps to control and manage transition in this case
