ICLR opened up my eyes to the harsh realities of research world. Many papers I thought were quite good getting trashed. Efforts Evaporated.

at a low level, the review process can filter out some manifestly terrible papers. Anything above, and it is purely a lottery.
but do note ICLR has a better process than most. Other confs are more likely to accept v. flawed papers or reject impactful ones.
