We mean to tell whether a story is true or false, not to evaluate a particular post that has a lot of metadata, user behavior, etc
serious outlets fact-check their stories. A story that is reported by none is likely to be fake. By most, likely to be true.

this is not a different problem (nor more difficult) than web search. Which is also very adversarial.
