I feel like most of the system we call "academia" isn't built to advance science, but to sustain the ego of its members.

Among researchers Twitter is mostly used to share papers. But you're right, they also express opinions (as well as in live convo, email...).

I'm really not sure that's the main use, sharing opinions on papers yes. The char limit tends to transform discussion into best pun contest

Ideally it would be nice to have a way to share comments directly on Arxiv, with Twitter integration (peer-moderated, maybe, to avoid abuse)
