Today I tried posting on /r/MachineLearning (of all places...). Immediately got attacked by a troll named "NukeIsrael". Just Reddit things.
HN is at least properly moderated, and doesn't have a culture that encourages popularity contests based on bad humor or trolling.

<nods> Issues with HN = echo chamber, upvoting of inaccurate info, stochastic nature of upvoted stories. Community is +1 though.

I also think the lack of humour goes too far but it's likely preventing great deals of badness and is a minor loss.
