I don't think the angry, bigoted mob can be reasoned w/, but we absolutely need safety-net policies to lift them out of economic decline.

media intermediates people and reality; maybe what changed is the media. Centralized media was better able to contain bigotry.

Nazis rose before social media by whipping up hate, in spite of centralized media. The dry tinder they lit was economic pain.
