      He doesn't say which it is ("There's only one.") but context hints that it's Google. Seems like it was a big motivation for starting OpenAI.

      OpenAI is just as "open" as Google, albeit on a much smaller scale. Research behind closed doors, publish papers, release OS code.

      research done by people who receive a salary, and are thus controlled by those with the money. It's not a different model.

      There are similarities, but also differences. He mentions a non-profit that's not legally obliged to cater to shareholders.

      effectively obliged to cater to Elon though. I want to see AI research on the Open-Source model, and that would look very different.

      now that you mention it, Google's Magenta is actually more open than anything I've seen from OpenAI. But we can go *much* further.

          Agree. Google is still unknown quantity, many projects will remain closed/secret—for example those secretive TPUs ;-)

          And it's still the data that needs to be open, right? The models/algorithms are important, but more so the data.
