Not to mention, nearly 100% of companies using Python. The 5% of Python users on Py3 seem to be mostly hobbyists.

if you want people to use your OSS Python project, it would not be a wise move. Especially if you hope to monetize it in some way.

important platforms don't support py3, e.g. AWS Lambda, AppEngine. Some new libs (TF) start out in py2 only

I would say that most *new projects* being developed today are developed in 2.7

I blame the people who are using harassment tactics to force devs to switch to a language they don't need.

Py2 won't be supported (for free) in ~3 years. Will cost extra (time or $) to maintain Py2 after then.

I also don't think that porting over Py2 to 3 is that bad unless you have a dependency that is Py2 only.
