If a new tech appears that threatens to eat your lunch as an established player, embrace it. Hostility towards it just hastens your demise.

are you sure you're not setting up a strawman? a large fraction of ACL papers use neural nets. who flat out rejects them?
I see quite a bit of very real hostility towards DL methods in these fields.
