speech is nice in some contexts, but applicability range is narrow. Main issue is that speech is broadcast all around you.

I would argue that speech is most useful for human-to-human comms, because of the non-semantic (social) info it conveys.

there are also times when speech sucks. eg when we go to use whiteboards or whatever even for H2H comms

yes, speech is generally bad at conveying info compared to txt/img. But it has emotional & social content, and that's important.
