What is the fraction of the Python community that uses Python 3? 5%? 10%?
anecdotally, 100% of the companies using Python that I know are on Python 2.7.

agree. Coming from java, utf8 handling in 2.7 is just painful

there is some python 3 use out there, but it is fairly anecdotal (~ level as pypy)
