Things that bad programmers believe: incremental refactoring is preferable to rewriting. Nope.
Rewriting from scratch is usually the only way to replace core data structures, which is the *only* thing that matters in any piece of code.

In fact you could say that startups are "big rewrites" of large companies: same business model, different MO. Change via renewal.
