Worth noting that the purpose of these laws, then and now, isn't public safety but to cripple industries perceived as a threat by incumbents

@fchollet I don't think this is 100% true ~ part is a fear of change, trust etc. innovation always met with trepidation
@daniellenewnham maybe. But the Law is an instrument of power. Most laws exist as weapons in the hands of somebody.
