Occasionally I am reminded that closed-source scientific software like Mathematica and Matlab is still a thing. Anybody uses that? Why?

@fchollet I like Maylab's integrated ide where I can see variables, types, produce nice plots, create GUIs, nice debugger etc
@dovgalec have you tried IPython or Jupyter? What are your thoughts?

@fchollet yes, ipython where I was impressed with inline graphics and notebooks. IMHO still not up to my expectations. Didn't try jupyter -
