To be fair by the way I'm now aware of 5 separate groups who worked concurrently on closely-related image/text projects. NYT mentions 2/5
@karpathy my ex-lab in Tokyo worked on the exact same pb around 2010-2012 http://www.isi.imi.i.u-tokyo.ac.jp/publication/2011/ACMMM2011_ushiku.pdf … (that was before DL got cool though).

@fchollet there's a huge line of work on generating sentences. I like these models because you can sample, go both ways, finetune all, etc.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
