False comparison? Techies now that are of the same ilk as those who built cool tech in garages in earlier decades are the guys now who write large code bases, build surveillance tech for governments and build succesful startups.

Nah, I have a lot of respect for those early techies. They literally wrote code in assembler that took rockets and spaceships to the moon in the 60s. No simulators, no Internet, no StackOverflow. Just pure logic, math, and code.
