If you have impostor syndrome, that's generally a good sign. Many of the people who literally run the world are unimaginably foolish yet supremely confident. At least you're not one of them.

An interesting aspect of Twitter is that it gives you unfiltered access to the hour-by-hour thoughts of a small set of very rich and powerful people. And it's not pretty.

hmmm but if they r the ones rulling the world maybe I should be more confident in my own foolishness

One of the people running the world? No, definitely not 😆 I do however find this illustration to be quite illuminating 👍pic.twitter.com/QWEJ0XmLNW

It takes supreme confidence—almost always undeserved—to feel entitled to run the world. That's the problem in a nutshell.

I suspect for many this never goes away. But that idea that you could be totally wrong always makes you check your work a dozen times before releasing. The pleasant opposite is when your opponents are blind to their weaknesses you can compete much more confidently.

Being on either end of this spectrum isn’t a good thing. A good leader needs both confidence and humility.

That's a very low standard to hold oneself to, I'd say. Like most such things, imposter syndrome is a good signal only when one really suffers from it. The _idea_ of having it also becomes a self-indulgent tool for signalling uniqueness (as a barely disguised humble-brag).

Does that mean one is more likely to run the world if they don't have imposter syndrome and are overconfident? 🤔
