If you want something to last for a long time, don't make it out of gold. Burying kings with treasure dramatically shortened the lifespan of their tombs, making it a quasi-certainty that they would get desecrated and pillaged as soon as the site could no longer be guarded

It shows how important the afterlife was to them. Because they set up traps and stuff. So they knew it was at risk of being stolen. But I suppose to them, preserving history was far less important than the swag they took to the afterlife
