They are all playing in Asimov's sandbox.

1965 and 1977. I'm so old. I don't know how that happened. 8 year old me sat in the front row for Star Wars, the day it came out.

Dune isn’t alone, a lot of ancient Buddhism is clearly a rip off of the Jedi. Zoroastrian dualism rips off the force. Dambusters in WW2 are obviously trying to copy the Deathstar trench run. King Arthur is a lazy analogue for Luke Skywalker. Don’t get me started on Flash Gordon.

yep. Dune was Star Wars before Star Wars, in some ways. GoT before GoT. Mentats even suggest Vulcans of Star Trek

Setting, and: It’s said “Chosen one” will bring balance, but he also brings destruction. Despite his power he’s haunted by visions of his wife’s coming death (in childbirth), and is unaware that she is carrying twins. The male twin will fix his father’s mistakes.

I was surprised by the immense shallowness when rewatching starwars as an adult, after having it stored in memory from an excited kids perspective. I've not anticipated the major shift in perception just by having more experience and knowledge about the world.
