Isn't this an effect of all closed loops and recommender systems? I feel like this result was first famously established on YouTube.

A recommender system could push for diversity of views and uniqueness of views. Right now, most everything is ranked according to popularity, which results in extremization in closed loops. We need to switch from PCA (energy rank) to “balanced” PCA (observer/control rank).
