The fact that these are *epidemics*, affecting huge fraction of the population, indicates that there are *systemic factors* at work. We can't fight the issue via appeals to personal responsibility, we must address the systemic factors.
When one person makes a bad choice, it's that person's problem. When 70% of the population runs into the same issue, it is society's problem.
However, many people still eat fast food (mainstream journalism), thinking it's healthy and tasty (saying the truth). But in fact they are destroying their health (democracy).
