That’s true but conversely you cannot address this issue until mainstream “credible” outlets stop being blatant propaganda. It’s easy to fall down rabbit holes when you see the insane lies from mainstream outlets

I first encountered this from the left when Portland was trying to fluoridate water in 2013. Friends who I thought should know better continually reposted conspiracy theories & misinformation on Facebook.

Gamergate happened soon after this. In retrospect, they were like practice runs for the 2016 & beyond.

Good insights. Got me thinking about our "information health" in general. Can we create guidelines for information, similar to those for healthy food (whole food, natural ingredients, organic, etc.)? There seem to be no line between junk and high quality info atm.

I think 1% (or so) of people are contrarians. My data? The ratio of likes to dislikes on universally liked YouTube vídeos. But “engagement” algorithms amplify those voices and push some that are “on the spectrum” contrarians to the edge.
