But also, most of the problem isn't "human nature" or "toxic people expressing themselves freely". It's organized networks (sometimes state actors) that run campaigns of disinformation, propaganda, and manipulation using the amplification and targeting tools that FB provide.
The problem isn't "individuals organically talking to other individuals". The problem is deliberate psychological manipulation at scale -- and the infrastructure that enables it for profit.

I don’t know of any company doing that any kind of scale. It’s certainly not true of Facebook or Google.

It is omnipresent. 2016 was definitely the peak year, and though it has receded since on some platforms (most notably Twitter and YouTube), it has not receded on Facebook.
