The problem isn't "individuals organically talking to other individuals". The problem is deliberate psychological manipulation at scale -- and the infrastructure that enables it for profit.
I don’t know of any company doing that any kind of scale. It’s certainly not true of Facebook or Google.
Imo, governments and organized networks don't need Facebook to spread their agendas. They always had the capacity to do so before Facebook. They just upgraded to a cheaper method.
This is half-true - that exists, on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, and you have colleagues at Google that work hard to stop it. But the other half is all of us, and our own biases and instincts
Francois - talk to the YT team at Google. This problem is a constant, hard one for all companies at billion scale. Scapegoating FB is silly - it’s the nature of the internet and recsys. Also a grey like between manipulation and free speech.
