I believe 10x engineers really do exist, but a hard truth about them is that if one of them were to join your startup, chances are you would have no idea what to do with her/him. To utilize an exceptional person, you need the right project and the right environment.

I guess my crux question is then: do you feel it may then imply it’s more effective to focus on context than this latent genius to produce these desired outcomes? Not to diminish talent ofc but moreso rather encourage the probability of it being realized I suppose is my q intent

Thank you for your response btw!

I'm actually going to disagree here, latent genius isn't obviously intrinsic - it's very much trained and highly contextual as well. Einstein wasn't magically born a genius destined to do great things. 1/

He had a relatively tedious job at a patent office that both forced him to think and gave him time to do so, and he used it to synthesize, abstract, and apply his experience in novel ways.

How do you know if they're latent geniuses if it's never realized? Seems like a lack of proof is an issue, and moreso a subjective evaluation of someone's "potential" whatever that entails.
