Lots of folks (e.g. in my replies) confuse being able to name something and being able to explain it (i.e. understand it). "Why does each half of the earth get cooler/hotter in opposite yearly cycles?" "Duh, that's just seasons"

The ultimate version of this being extremely hot takes like "that's just brain development". I mean, sure. Also, computing is just electrons and art is just pixels. Easy. I have all the answers. I know the words!

Sometimes it's a bit subtle. "How do airplanes fly?" "That's just *lift*" "Why does a child born from parents with brown and blue eyes respectively have brown eyes?" "That's just because the *allele* for blue eyes is *recessive*"

Naming things closes doors too easily. The reality behind these questions easily answered with a single term is extraordinarily complex, and very few people actually understand it.

I should explain this better, it's a common problem My explanation would have no impact, I should not waste time writing ithttps://twitter.com/trylks/status/1446558603750649856 …

"Learn to be successful and you will be successful" Synthesis of ideas should not be taken too far, granularity often helps, e.g. for profit: 1. Find a group of people with a problem 2. Build a solution to the problem 3. Price it 4. Explain it to that group of people

That on education in general. People memorized things on science class and then think they know that. To be fair, I think there are so many layers of abstractions that we need to stop knowing at some place, we just need to be somewhat aware of where our knowledge stops.

Teaching anything to someone requires minimal reflection about its fundamentals. Further teaching with exercise, dialogue, writing, etc. contributes to a deeper understanding. 1/2
