AGI timeline predictions make more sense if you consider the track record of CS people when it comes to time-budgeting large projects that involve unknown factors

Most forecasters claim AI advancements within a timeline of 20 years which is unrealistic and baseless or it's beyond 50 which makes it inconsequential to the current generations. History has seen many AI winters and subsequent springs with GOFAI (good old fashioned AI)
