As a result, the only people willing to overcome the cost/friction to unlock the incremental immersion/presence value are a small subset of console & PC gamers. No sign this will change unless VR entry somehow manages to become more casual.

I agree, but the physical aspects of wearing a VR headset and waving your arms around in a space only you can see make it fundamentally non-casual (even if the hardware itself was super cheap and light), so...

That's clearly the case today. But I think that with better comfort/weight the value proposition will soon expand to "and replace your pc/console". That can unlock a very large subset of the population and is why Facebook is heavily invested in XR.

Think performance w ok I’ll play huge factor in ppl switching. Me & a lot of ppl have switched from console to PC bcuz it’s a decent advantage against console in games like Warzone

Immersion just for immersion sake doesn't tell the whole story. The most popular games in the world are multiplayer games like Roblox, Fortnite, and Among Us - games that are built around social interactions between friends. VR is a huge need in the world of social connectivity.
