There are still bots, there's still disinformation, but isn't a major driving force of the overall content on Twitter anymore.

Twitter had a massive disinformation problem in 2016-2017 (when a lot of the content you came across originated from fleets of fake propaganda accounts), but has since been taking the problem seriously. This is effective for the Twitter population, but it fuels the growth of networks like Gab where a significant portion of their user base is pretty detached from reality.
