I see a lot of people puzzled by the fact that those who distrust the Covid vaccines are simultaneously enthusiastic about evidence-less "treatments" like HCQ or ivermectin, and coming up with convoluted theories to explain their possible thought process... but it's really simple

They just come across a lot of content (typically on Facebook) that says "vaccine are dangerous" and "ivermectin is a miracle cure". That's it. That's how it works. People respond to the information they consume. Disinformation *works*. People read things online & believe them.

It's *not* about: - What the CDC or FDA says - What the government says - What specific politicians say (though if a politician's statements are part of someone's information diet, then that will have an impact) - Nostalgia towards the "good old days" of medical treatments

No need to invoke far-fetched psychological, cultural, or political theories. There are info ecosystems where vaccines are constantly decried as evil, while the miracle cure of the day is getting the spotlight. People who read this stuff every day believe it. How could they not?

And by the way, there's nothing organic about it. They didn't come up with these ideas themselves. They're not actively organizing disinformation campaigns -- they just unwittingly participate in them.

If you want to fix it, you need to go after those who are engineering the disinformation campaigns (sometimes for profit, sometimes just as a way to sow chaos) as well as their enablers.

There is a feeling of exploitation and despair which is caused by factors which feel completely unalterable. Without the feeling, the disinformation would get less traction. The feeling is what makes the response to the disinformation be, "I knew it, this explains everything".

Not trivial to go after foreign government sponsored disinformation campaigns. There are thousands of people who work eight hours shifts five days a week pedalling "well-tailored" disinformation online in orchestrated manmer. Those uninitiated easily buy into this crap.

Is there any institution that practically helps society to be more resistant to misleading information? I know several institutes which conduct studies about the effects of that information but they don't seem to practically teach people how to deal with information

I think there's still going to be a lot of disinformation transmission even without organized actors pushing it, although they make it much worse. So I think there's organic parts to it. E.g. we'll never fully eradicate the memes of chemtrails, Illuminati, and gov't mind control.

Recent IPCC report states we have 20 years or less to stop global warming. They noted CO2 emissions dropped during the world lockdown but said it wasn't enough even if maintained. The report shows its humans causing it. So how would you depopulate a majority of humans? Ask AI???

Population growth also drives change and the increases of protests and size, against the failing governments. What would you do to fix this? Ask the World Economic forum? Employ AI to get direction? And depopulate too?
