The switch of many media outlets to a subscription-only model (as opposed to a pageview-centric model monetized with ads or affiliate marketing) has been great. Less incentive to write clickbait, less sensationalism, less reliance on appealing to the lowest common denominator.

Your incentives should align with your values, so pageviews-centric models like ads, affiliate marketing, content networks, sponsor deals, etc aren't for everyone. And they don't mix will with quality journalism in particular. But they work well for many other types of content.

"all ads bad" is not a good take. Reality is nuanced.
