Numbers will only help you if you're already asking the right questions and have already collected the right information. Most important decisions aren't like that.

In reverse, beware of showing shoddy data (low sample size, biased...) to shore up bad choices. No data (which forces you to think about the problem for yourself) is often better than bad data (which points in the wrong direction).

@fchollet I think asking the right set of questions also requires enough dataThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Asking the right questions will come from good understanding of the problem space—which is a form of data, collecting the right information requires a significant amount of data(IMHO)

It should be commensurate with the probabilistic causal model of the process. In some cases, single reliable data point suffices. In some cases, all the dogs on the internet do not allow to identify wolves.

Where does
#data end and where do non-data decisions start? I mean is not every impression that you gathered in your life a piece of data to some extent? Just data that doesn’t live in spreadsheetsThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

… and also almost certainly not data driven

In other words it is a moving frontier. User data where possible and helpful and aim to automate decisions progressively.

Totally correct. Most concious decisions are supported by the data gathered in your life experience and stored in your brain. The problem is given the same set of experience data and two brains, one will make a good decision and one won't and we can't understand exactly why.
