I don't think you have to start programming as a kid. I started programming seriously at 20 (though I had some contact with programming previously, it was extremely superficial). I spent my first 3 college years studying math and physics almost exclusively.

In your experience is it harder for people to pick up new (programming) languages after age 40?

I learnt Python at 57, it was easy, 30 years programming in various other languages certainly helped a lot.

There are different styles of building something, including knowledge. You can build a pyramid that is wide and stable. You can build a thin tower. Tall, but narrow and unstable. You can build a thin shell. Looking good from the outside, but unsupported.

Do you have data to backup this statement? How do you know you wouldn't have been a better programmer if you started earlier? How do you know that having kids studying coding at a young age wouldn't have a deep impact?
