To evaluate a tech announcement, ask yourself: 1. What can you do with this thing? 2. Are these capabilities new? 3. How do the new capabilities change the game? Do not ask: 1. Does it seem cool? 2. Does the tech seem complex / advanced? 3. Who's making it?
Technology is not fashion, and it would be a serious mistake to treat it as such.
But tech becomes fashion. Once hundreds of millions use something it is mainstream, especially something people carry on them everyday. Part of Jobs/Apple genius is recognizing that. The iPhone was amazing, innovative design - it felt special, accelerating ascension to fashion.

I completely agree. I feel when it comes to technology, libraries in particular, the capabilities and details rest on how good its documentation is. And this is a place where @TensorFlow / Keras has always lagged behind.
It doesn’t matter what all you can do with a product if every time you have to do something novel/ not obvious, you have to wonder how to do it before doing it.
I think I agree with how you're saying technology should be evaluated, but aesthetics are also an important part of design for most people. Also I think caring about aesthetics in design often leads to better technology.
But secret to Apple success is it does combine fashion with tech.
