It doesn't take 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to master a skill. Obviously it depends on the difficulty & breadth of the skill, what you already know, and how smart you are. Typically it seems to range between 200 & 2000 hours, but there's a long tail of much greater times.

This may work in many disciplines, however, does not work for Medicine, specialty training (Eg internal medicine) and sub speciality training (Eg cardiology). Not possible to cut down the practical experiential requirements.

I wonder if a diverse skillset will shorten this length even more. When I told my friends that I learned “clean code” practices by reading Strunk & White, they were baffled.
