The only trends that will prevent us from reverting back to dumb terminals are: - privacy (some data should stay on the device or at least be decrypted/processed only on device) - cost-cutting (end users are willing to pay for local compute power, might as well leverage it)

Of course if you're just rendering web pages, cost-cutting isn't a factor, but if you're running deep learning models, it is.

One of our key insights having worked on this problem for the last three years is that some collaborative browser style workflows are greatly improved by making collaboration asynchronous (github, dolthub) using clone, fork, and merge rather than synchronous (GSuite, Figma).
