An important truth that's often hard for software engineers to understand: technical systems are mostly made of people.

The people who design the product. The people who write the code. The people who maintain the code. The people who use the product. Technical artifacts are transient edges. The nodes they connect are human beings.

So take care of your people. Have empathy for your users, have empathy for your team. Create people-centric systems. This is always my #1 piece of advice to software engineers. And usually the most disregarded one

Maybe made of technical people. And maybe tech people has a given mindset with differences from noon tec ppl. I refer to tech ppl when working on technical issues. I know they drink, love, sleep, read as any other human being.

Solo dev only has to listen to users, reducing a ton of complexity at the cost of limiting capability. Yet there’s plenty of capability to make a good living for me.

I think it is partly a buying into a willfull erasure of the servant/plumber class. "AI", "ml", "cloud", "devops": tool-centric language that erases the people who do all the work. Nobody says "did you try using *sales*?"pic.twitter.com/3YcgtYmz4o
