So a successful society or organization is one that lets people follow their passions and their ambitions, and rewards them for doing so, rather than bully them back into mediocrity and normality. Foster and leverage people's own drive. For the most part, that's the big secret.

That may seem somewhat obvious, yet... it seems rare in practice. In particular, this applies to schooling & education, yet most school systems seem to be built exactly in reverse, targeting mass-produced mediocrity, and punishing personal ambition and achievement.

100% decentralised societies would empower people to become what they most could become thanks to the lack of centralised part in the system able to force people into another direction

If it is rare in practice maybe it is because it is hard to implement such a thing. But I am hopeful that it is not impossible.

Become the “most they could become” still implies a limitation on an individual

Full human potential only got us to 25 year lifespans (if that) and 100 mil max earth population for 2 million years. It took machines to raise us up to where we are today. I understand/accept/love my cyborg nature. My full potential is unlimited.

It's a common misconception that people lived until 25-30. The average life expectancy was so low because of high child mortality. It doesn't mean after reaching adulthood people would live for about three decades max.

A successful society or family allows someone to feel free and do what they want to do. This is also true for relationships and friends. Your best friend is someone who allows you to be as you are.

Question : how can we design organisations that preserve and continuously increase the autonomy of the people within them ? To do so, the first step is to understand the workings and origins of the “traditional” power based structures most of us inhabit.
-
It’s a complex question, because material advancement is a component of autonomy. But any system designed as a single Directed Acyclic Graph, I’m proposing without evidence, can never achieve this goal.
