The apocryphal quote was definitely much earlier than 1998. I have it on good authority (
@ProfSteveYoung) that Fred never said it. -
Thanks for confirming. I think that Fred had denied it in the 1996 conversation but I don’t remember clearly so I didn’t want to claim.
