It's japanese, which uses kanji (Chinese characters in their system). The kanji on the picture is the name of the newspaper (Asahi Shimbun or Asahi News).

For those curious. A reticulated python escaped an appartment in Yokohama likely via an open window two weeks ago and was found yesterday under the roof of the same apartment building. Neighborhood was searched by police, fire dept and volunteers for two weeks to locate it.
