Within 10-20 years, nearly every branch of science will be, for all intents and purposes, a branch of computer science. Computational physics, comp chemistry, comp biology, comp medicine... Even comp archeology. Realistic simulations, big data analysis, and ML everywhere

I agree with the basic idea, but see it more like CS becomes a commodity skill, still the essential hammer to have in ones tool belt, but the science skills are the differentiator

This, until your original thesis actually comes true, when things become so complicated that even human AI hybrids are no match for nature and it’s up to AGI only, to unravel its true facets. For one thing I believe only an AGI would be able to crack the complex adaptive systems

that make up life. That is if they can be cracked at all. A considerable chunk of all research money should be directed towards developing AI, but I believe that ML is a flawed paradigm that’s going to bite the dust pretty soon.

Do you figure it’s worth investing time into learning ML even as a SWE today?

Learning competency with the toolset is normal not transformative. The tools may be changing but that’s all you are describing.
