An individual mind is a small subroutine in a sprawling problem-solving, understanding-generation mechanism that extends across continents and centuries. Civilization, as we call it. It's this mechanism that implements human intelligence in its true form.
When we say "humans are intelligent because they can do XYZ", we usually mean that this mechanism -- civilization -- has developed solutions for XYZ, and that individual humans are able to copy those solutions.

Won''t AI systems transfer data far more effeciently between themselves than humans did during the development of civilization? We have a digital infrastructure already in place. Won't AI systems be able to compress information more effeciently and duplicate benefical systems?
The ability to transcribe and transmit ideas, problems, solutions and so much more to people we've not met or who has been born yet is incredible. Some of those people are our future selves, allowing us to focus on different sub problems at a time.
