No one today understands consciousness. It's not just that we can't recreate it, it's that we don't even understand its most basic properties -- what it is, what it isn't, what is its function. If someone tells you they understand it, they're deceiving themselves.

In general, humans tend to overestimate how much they understand about natural systems, because they can't perceive most of the complexity of these systems. We're surrounded by an ocean of complexity, and because we manage to paddle on its surface, we believe we're in control.

Control. One of my favorite dialogues and observations about control comes from an Anthony Hopkins & Cuba Gooding, Jr. movie called Instinct.https://youtu.be/cEx_koTsYVk

We are only scratching the surface when it comes to what nature has already developed.

Maybe off topic, but reminds me of a joke: if the human mind were so simple that we could fully understand how it works, there's no way that such a simple brain could achieve such an understanding.

People believe technology can solve anything, bettering people life, onboarding people to the Mar, conquering climax change. Technology might have side effects that are out-weighting its benefits. it might be a culprit of the climax change with assist of unbounded human desires

Do you need to understand it to recreate it? Or maybe the problem is simply that it is just not well defined, so then it also doesn't make sense to recreate sth which is not well defined. And it's probably orthogonal to AGI anyway. (Btw, congratulations to your child!)
