i think that first question drew a lot of us to this field, but quickly after realizing that the actual state of things are not at all like that, it makes it somewhat even more exciting exactly because of that disenchanted feeling (at least for me)

I'm genuinely interested in both. I think a process of maturation that every AI researcher goes through - or should go through - is to realize that these are not the same question.

Fully agree, moreover, their solution don’t naturally converge as many expect: “as long as we build smarter solutions we are approaching the target of true intelligence”
