That performance increase is utterly insane. I wonder what specifically about Rust made this kind of gain possible? Were they just not parallelizing this process before?

one could have eliminated the overhead of reader mutex with std::atomic and RCU; Kafka's design decisions for zero-copy efficient log consumption could have been applied; Rust is brilliant but feel the same speedup in C++ and Python is possible if tackled correctly.
