You're correct. The trap you're falling into is thinking that François is responsible for how it's working out. Asking them to change the dynamic because they happen to have the thing and didn't even pay for it makes no sense.

Whether you like the system or not, blue check marks are objectively valuable. Also, the sum value of all of them goes to zero as blue check marks approach being on every account.

Blue check is a public ally declared edge (a link) between you and twitter. Why only allow edges between users and twitter and only broadcast public? This is scarcity of variety in verification. It's all or nothing with this stuff.
