This is definitely the optimal way for a healthy economy to allocate resources so as to maximally realize human potential in the long term. The invisible hand, efficient markets, all that. It makes perfect sense.

i worked at a firm where that was their only philosophy. they let you go if you don't drink the kool-aid, which explains why length of tenure is bimodal (1.5 years and 15 years)

Definitely not, and now many of the stocks are being driven simply because they’re investing in cryptocurrency, which is valued in near direct proportion to the environmental harm it produces.
