Making money is so much easier than making progress in AI
Pretty much every important thing in life is harder (and more rewarding) than making money. There is more money in the world than there is meaning.

the most annoying thing is that money can remove annoying obstacles giving you more time to focus on the rewarding things....

I saw a video essay on filmmaking that stated that in film, money = control. You can make an amazing movie on a tiny budget, but it's much harder and requires a lot of skill and luck. Sourcing people and materials, waiting for the perfect light conditions etc. Money buys those.

I mean I understand the sentiment, but research doesn't exist without food/shelter/salary/money. Wealthy societies conduct more research than impoverished societies.
